NEW
CONSUMER PROTECTION AGAINST COUNTERFEIT PRODUCTS.

White Bear Lake/MN (01/06/2000)
MICOT CORPORATION today announced the promotion of its SECUTAG®
Anti-Counterfeit Product Authentication and Identification System.
The previously known MICOT® Micro-Component Tracer is now registered
worldwide as SECUTAG®. It is the state-of-the-art in color-coded
micro-particles.
'Our manufacturing
technology and screening process make it unique within competing
products. The small sizes we are now able to manufacture provide
us with an advantage of cost-efficiency no other identification
system can offer' - Zimmermann (its founder and president) says.
'Who else can propose a security tool for only $0.32 to put your
'fingerprint' on 1,000 of your brand name products?'
SECUTAG®
can now be manufactured with layers >1µ. The smallest
particle of five layers will be available in a size range of 5-8µ.
This miniaturized dimension opens applications on paper money,
holograms, security paper, bar codes, etc. Larger sizes for printing
or spraying are 8-15µ, 15-25µ and 25-32µ.
A large variety of application methods allow the marking of any
substrate with SECUTAG®, such as printing (screen, flexo,
gravure, dry offset), labeling (adhesive, textile), spraying (NORDSON's
DispenseJet), thermo transfer, mixing into a products /
packaging, extrusion into polyester fiber or laminates.
'Our concern
is the protection of the consumer against fraudulent manipulation
of products' - Zimmermann adds. 'The market of counterfeit products
worldwide is estimated to be over $100 billion yearly. This includes
pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, car components, cassettes, watches,
CDs, liquors, textiles, shoes, microchips, electronics, critical
aircraft parts, etc.'
To further
improve consumer awareness against counterfeit products, especially
for life threatening items such as drugs, food, car components,
etc., Micot Corporation addresses the conscientious manufacturer
to join the group of Consumer Products Manufacturers Association,
Inc., Pittsford, NY.
Richard Livesay,
a former 3M chemist and inventor of the color-coded particle for
explosives tagging, says: 'When I worked on the development of
micro particles to fight terrorism, we had a limited manufacturing
technology available. The development of the miniaturized SECUTAG
has opened a large range of applications. It will become a prominent
anti-counterfeit tool. Congratulations.'
